XVI Festival
"International Days of Jazz Music in Vinnytsia - 2011"
PRESS RELEASE
On the 24-25th of September, 2011 Vinnytisa again becomes the jazz capital of Ukraine. It is in these days that the concerts of the XVI festival "International Days of Jazz" will take place. Each year the organization committee tries to build the concert programme of the performers in such a way that not only excellent jazz but certain facet of this musical genre could be presented to the audience.
So the XVI Festival can be called "macro-chamber" festival. The viewers will see and hear two municipal jazz orchestras
- Sergiev Posad, (Russia) run by Honored Artist of Russia Vladislav Kaderskyi, who is also the conductor of of the legendary Chamber Orchestra of Jazz Music named after Lundstrem and the only one in Ukraine Vinnytsia Municipal Jazz orchestra "Vinband" (artistic director and chief conductor -Honored Artist of Ukraine Serhiy Otiuhov).
The chamber part of the festival consists of:
two duos:
- The project "Rudi Berger Duo" (Austria - Brazil) with the first jazz violin of the world Rudi Berger,
- Extraordinary percussion and piano duo - Oleg Butman and Natalia Smirnova (Russia);
two trios:
- «JEREZ TEXAS» in which the motives of flamenco from Ricardo Esteve are intertwined with melodic cello Matthieu Saglio (Spain - France);
- And the trio of one of the leading Polish jazz pianists Artur Dutkevich (Poland);
two quartets:
- Romantic and elegant "Yuko Okamoto Quartet" (Japan)
- And the star quartet, the headliner of the festival -Abraham Burton (USA), who comes to Vinnytsia on the personal invitation of Vladimir Groysman.
For the first time on the festival stage the DJ art will be presented. Mr. Krime (DJ Krime) is a member of quintet «FUTURETHNO» (Poland - Ukraine), who will demonstrate their art on the first day of the festival.
Looking through the programme once again we see that the organizers this time as well adhered to "geographic standards." At the eight festival concerts there will be musicians presented from eight countries - except for Ukraine , namely, from Russia, Austria, Brazil, Spain, France, Poland, Japan, USA.
This festival also like the previous ones, will not manage without premieres. For the first time in Ukraine the project "Rudi Berger duo" will perform, consisting of Rudi Berger (violin, Austria) and Fabiano Chagas(guitar, Brazil). The world brand «YAMAHA», which is an old and reliable partner of the festival, presents the project called "Star Dialogues." Its uniqueness is that during one concert, the audience will hear the quartet from the country of the rising sun - "Yuko Okamoto Quartet" (Japan) and the duo of Oleg Butman and Natalia Smirnova (Russia). Combining role of both groups will play the king of musical instruments - piano.
Organizers continued multi-geographical of formula festival performances’ building. Thus, at the XVI in one concert musicians from Poland and Ukraine, Austria and Brazil, Spain and France will play.
The cooperation with the television partner - Vinnytsia Regional State TV and Radio Company "VINTERA" has been preserved and expanded. From the 24th of September starts "Jazz Week at VDT-6" during which every evening for eight days the concerts of XVI festival will run. Thus, thanks to television, the festive of music will last more than a week!
And before the opening of this year's festival, as an experiment, Vinnitsa City Council, with support from the organizers of the festival, will hold a competition of young jazz performers. Professional jury and festival producers will find out:
- Interest in jazz music arts of the youth,
- The level of professional training of both performers and their teachers,
- Knowledge of jazz music literature,
- Ability to perform solo and in ensemble groups and others.
All the willing may also take part in the competition of the best ideas as for the rebranding of the festival “International Days of Jazz Music”. The basis of the competition is the modernizing of the “face” of the oldest jazz festival in Ukraine. The winners will receive the "Subscription of the Honorary Viewer of the Festival" for the next five years. You can read about the matter at the website of the festival in detail.

The Organization Committee is glad to meet guests from other regions of Ukraine and those from abroad. As always, the organizers in this difficult time not only managed to keep the clear form and high international status of the festival, but to complied the main principles of the "International Days of Jazz Music" - democracy and accessibility, because the cost of this year's set of tickets to all concerts is the lowest compared to five festivals of the previous years.
